What does a daily car commute really cost?
We added up twelve months of a Casablanca–centre commute by car. The result fits on one page.
by Salma Berrada — NOVA RIDE writer
The calculation nobody makes: we add fuel, wear, parking and time — then compare it with a scooter.
01The cost lines
- Fuel: 12 km/day × 21 days = 252 km, about 25 L at 14.5 DH/L = 363 DH a month.
- Paid parking: 20 DH per working day = 400 DH a month.
- Insurance and tax disc: about 250 DH a month, amortised.
- Servicing, tyres, oil: about 180 DH a month across the year.
- Time lost in traffic: 45 min a day, 15 hours a month.
03The total
About 1,190 DH a month, plus fifteen lost hours. In other words: an S1 PRO pays for itself in barely a year on fuel and parking alone — and keeps handing you back those fifteen hours.
A car for 12 km is not transport: it is a 1,190 DH monthly storage plan.
06And a taxi?
Casablanca to the centre runs about 25 DH on a normal fare. Over 21 days: 525 DH, waiting time not included. Fair for emergencies, pricier than fuel day to day, and without the freedom to leave when you want.
08What the maths does not say
It says nothing about the parking spot in front of your building at 19:00, nor about leaving the office at 21:00 without calling anyone. Those two lines have no price — but they change the minds of most people who switch to a scooter.
